artsScene and Third Wednesday

Join the Halifax tech/media/marketing community for May’s Third Wednesday at The Carleton sponsored by artsScene Halifax. artsScene Co-Chairs, Stacy O’Rourke and Rose Zack will be talking about artsScene and how, as a young business professional, you can gain experience, build networks and build better communities through supporting the arts.  Discussions will also focus on how arts organizations can benefit through bringing diverse skills to their organization and reaching new audiences.

Meet Me at the Symphony

On November 7, artsScene will be hosting our second Meet Me at the Symphony event. Your evening will begin with a Symphony 101 lead by Symphony Nova Scotia musicians Kerry Kavalo and Anne Simons – followed by the featured performance: Barber’s Violin Concerto with Susanne Hou.

48 Hour Film Competition

48 Hour Film Competition

Are you a professional but has always wanted to just let loose on a fun weekend project? Never made a movie, but always wanted to try? All the reason to compete in artsScene’s second annual 48 Hour Film Competition – the ultimate filmmaking challenge!

From August 23-25, registered teams will hit the streets to create a 5-8 minute short film in only 48 hours. Each team will have to write, shoot, edit and deliver a movie over the course of one weekend.

Films will be screened on September 5 at Empire Theatres, Park Lane and prizing will be awarded in the following categories:

  • Best Director: $500 equipment rental from William F. Whites International Inc.
  • Best Use of Items: $500 equipment rental from William F. Whites International Inc.
  • Best Overall Film: 1 Viral Van voucher valued for a 2 day rental from William F. Whites International Inc.


Marc Almon, Producer: Marc is a producer based in Halifax, Canada. He developed and produced the award-winning feature film BLACKBIRD, written & directed by Jason Buxton and starring Connor Jessup (FALLING SKIES) and Alexia Fast (JACK REACHER). Learn More about Marc.

Lisa Rose Snow, Director, Writer, Producer: Lisa is a director/writer/producer from Halifax, Nova Scotia who began her career as a playwright. Snow was accepted into AFCOOP’s FILM 5 program as a writer/director with her script ‘Two Penny Road Kill’ which filmed in April 2013 and will be playing at the AFF in the Atlantic Shorts Gala this year. Mark Palermo: Mark is a local writer and filmmaker.His feature screenplay Detention (co-authored with its director, music video veteran Joseph Kahn) was independently produced, and then distributed theatrically by Sony Pictures in 2012. Art Walks – Summer 2013

Art Walks Halifax

Explore the heart of our city while touring the vibrant art galleries and local art venues. Each Art Walk will be hosted in a different area of Halifax and will have exhibit artists on hand to answer your questions and present their work.

The first three Walks will feature Downtown, North End, and the Waterfront!

Each art walk will conclude at a nearby local pub for a mixer so everyone can chat about what they’ve learned over some refreshments.

artsScene’s Art Walks are open to everyone and are FREE. We encourage you to take advantage of these warm summer months and enjoy the scenery, art, and great company Halifax has to offer.
